Spring!

Wow! I can't believe it's the 6th of March! Hopefully the worst of the winter is now behind us. My daffodils and tulips are up and the crocuses are blooming. The seed catalogs are stacked by my chair and I'm thinking fresh spinach, vine ripened tomatoes, Black eyed Susans and pink cone flowers turning their faces to the sun. I see hummingbirds hovering over the roses and the trumpet vine every time I close my eyes.
I've spent this week off from work. Somehow I injured my knee. On Tuesday the doctor recommended a week of rest and prescribed medication to decrease the inflammation. So I'm not amounting to much. I'm not spring cleaning nor getting any of the garden cleaned up.
This weekend we had a casual supper to celebrate the twins 17th birthday. We had a picnic menu-hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, mac-n-cheese, cake and ice cream.
I remember the day these two entered this world, They were so tiny and sweet.I remember rocking them nestled against my chest. I remember their sweet smell and soft skin. I will never forget the love and pride on my son's face.
I can't believe how time flies. When I was child the time passed so slowly.
In my last post I wrote about saving money on food. I was reading Meredith's' blog where she was experimenting with a 50s menu. Much to her surprise she could save money and lose weight by planning her meals and cooking from scratch. However it's a lot more work. Funny that Ive been cooking this way since 1972.
I agree we feel more content and crave less sugar when we eat less processed food. High fructose corn syrup is a particularly bad ingredient that causes the body to crave sugar. You would be surprised to how many foods contain this ingredient. It's found in flavored yogurt, cereals, ready to eat frozen foods, cakes, cookies, puddings etc. I believe it's a major contributer to the obesity epidemic in our country.
So for today I'll pay some bills on line, catch up on my email, do some sewing, maybe some crocheting. I have a book I'm reading. Tonight we'll have chicken salads for supper.
I think I will have a great day!
